His parents were traders who sold palm oil and kernel. As a student, Okafor was known for his prowess in sports including high jump, long jump and football. He dreamed of becoming a professional footballer or athlete. However, during a high school sports tournament, Okafor suffered injuries from a high jump competition that affected his ambitions in sports.

The veteran until his death battled diabetes which led to the amputation of his leg.

Sources say the veteran passed on at Evercare hospital on 2 of march 2024, where he was receiving treatment.

At age 62, the veteran is survived by his wife and children.
